Bamenda, North West Region - Cameroon
Another tragic case of mob justice has shaken Bamenda and left a family, a village, and an entire community in mourning.
A young man identified as Sangwe Dieudonné was brutally beaten to death on Sunday night, February 8, 2026, after being falsely accused of theft - an accusation that reportedly came from his own girlfriend.
According to multiple reports, Dieudonné, who grew up in Bamukumbit village and was widely described as calm, responsible, and respectful since childhood, went to visit his girlfriend after she allegedly refused to meet him outside. What was meant to be a simple visit quickly turned into a fatal misunderstanding.
Upon his arrival, an argument reportedly broke out. In the heat of the moment, the young woman raised an alarm, shouting that a thief had entered the house.
Neighbours, responding to the cry, gathered almost immediately. Without verifying the claims or contacting authorities, the crowd descended on Dieudonné, beating him severely.
By the time the truth began to surface, it was already too late.
Dieudonné succumbed to his injuries shortly after the attack.
Family members have strongly denied the theft allegation, insisting that Dieudonné was not a criminal and had no history of violence or theft. His sudden and violent death has sparked outrage, grief, and renewed calls for justice.
The body of the deceased has been deposited at the Bamenda Regional Hospital mortuary, while police have opened an investigation to identify and arrest those involved in the mob attack.
Authorities have once again warned the public against taking the law into their own hands, stressing that mob justice destroys innocent lives and undermines the justice system.
As the calls grow louder online and offline, one message keeps resurfacing:
Justice for Dieudonné.
