The job I do isn't a stable one. So what I do is I buy things in advance. I never wanted to hear one day that there was no food in the house.
Even when I don't have cash, I still buy food and household items ahead because I wanted to make sure my family lacked nothing.
Then we had a misunderstanding over money. The issue was just ₦24,000. We were in the hospital with my daughter, and I didn’t have money. I had to wait for my brother, who wasn’t in Nigeria, to send me money.
The reason I didn’t ask her for money was because just a day before, I had struggled to send her money to eat at her workplace. Unknown to me, this person had more than ₦600,000 in her account.
We were both in the hospital while I was looking for a way to pay the ₦24,000 so they could treat my daughter. Because of the change in environment, I was also battling serious health challenges. Yet, I kept paying the bills until my daughter recovered.
I’m talking about just ₦24,000. The way she responded provoked me. I said, “Oh, you think I’m weak, abi?” So I seized her phone and told her she wouldn’t get it back for the next three days.
It wasn’t even up to 24 hours before she went out and bought another phone for ₦319,000. That was when I realised, oh, this same person I was struggling to raise ₦24,000 around had over ₦600,000 sitting in her account all along..."
I'm wondering why a woman would be this wicked towards her own child. Having 600K and refusing to pay 24K for your daughter's treatment..
